OKEECHOBEE — Walking into Hippie Daze on Park Street is like taking a step into the past.

Hippie Daze offers a wide variety of merchandise and services such as jewelry, clothing, knickknacks, tarot card reading, yoga and more.

Owned and operated by Lisa Rexroad, who was born and raised in Okeechobee, a graduate of Okeechobee High School, the store is a colorful blend of calm and beauty.

Tiffany Cassandra, Pamela Barton and Marylou Paraway are also a big part of the Hippie Daze life.

Pam is the house tarot card reader providing trauma healing, inner child work, mind, body and soul connection, mediumship, guidance readings and Reiki and Energy Healing.

Tiffany specializes in Fairy Hair, Feathers, Hair Wraps, Faux dreads and more. If you have visited and gotten your hair done, it was Tiffany who did it.

Marylou, from Canada, teaches yoga and helps in the Guided Meditation room, where you can find peace of mind and calm, they explained. Marylou has been learning English for two months and is picking it up quickly. French is her native language.

Recently, Hippie Daze held its first Drum Circle. “Music goes into your soul,” said Lisa. “And drumming brings out a deep feeling in everyone. It’s a gathering for people to connect. It’s spiritual without being religious. I wouldn’t say it’s a church, but it’s a church of its own kind.”

The circle took place on Jan. 21 and was a big hit with the community. There was fun for the whole family with bubbles, a massage table, a food truck and lots more.

The drum circle takes place every month on the third Sunday at dusk. Everyone is invited whether they play drums or not. “Bring your tambourine, your maracas, shakers, anything to make some noise,” said Lisa. Dancers are welcome as well, she said. Belly dancers would be a nice addition. Normally a drum circle has a fire in the center, but they are not able to get a permit for that.

“We are working on some surprises for next month,” said Lisa.

Hippie Daze is located at 413 S.W. Park Street.

The drum circle is located directly across the street from the store in Flagler Park.
