The Weekly Clothesline: The Bible has the answers…

Posted

It’s a new year and another challenge for New Year’s Resolutions. Before you spend time thinking, any improvement, any self-help… anything you need to become a better person can be found in the Bible. Here’s a couple of examples:

When you’re tempted to eat something unhealthy…when you feel you need to be someone, you’re not…when you find yourself sounding like a “know-it-all,” read Matthew 4. The first thing Jesus did before He began his public ministry was to retreat to the desert for prayer… strength, encouragement, and wisdom to accomplish His purposes. And when Satan showed up with the temptations of hunger, power, and fame, Jesus was ready for battle. Satan failed, and Jesus was prepared for his journey.

When you forget that all human beings are equal in the eyes of God and that we should treat each other with equal respect, read Luke 6. Love your enemies…don’t judge others.

Then, there’s the Samaritan woman. Wouldn’t you like to be able to have a truthful conversation about a personal or sensitive subject with someone else without a fight ensuing? Read John, Chapter 4. An honest conversation stating the problem, along with a humble response. Turning our stress over to God from the beginning makes perfect sense. A resolve to practice peace from within can change everything.

God has all the answers. Seek His help when things aren’t the way they should be. He’s got your back. Delve into His Word. You’ll find whatever support you need…
