The Weekly Clothesline: Jesus said, “I AM”…

Posted

Have you ever thought how lucky and blessed we are to have God’s Word written in a book? Our faith tells us just how important this gift is. And personally, John is my favorite evangelist. His inspired words capture the kingship and authority of God in a special way, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we find certain things written by John that are found nowhere else. For example, John gives us the “I AM” statements, names that Jesus gave Himself to show his love for his children.

Jesus says, “I AM the Bread of Life,”; “I AM the Light of the World”; “I AM the Gate for the sheep”; “I AM the Good Shepherd”; “I AM the Resurrection and the Life”; “I AM the Way, and the Truth and the Life”; “I AM the vine”; and finally in the Book of Revelation we find, “I AM the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end.” How appropriate to end with the promise that all that is, and all that is to come, is under the Kingship and power of Almighty God.

There are many other references to the awe and power of God, but those statements made by Jesus Himself, authenticated by the apostle John, give us who believe just what we need to know. Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and may He continue to walk with us as we read His Word in wonder and awe.
