Give our children wings

OKEECHOBEE — As an exchange teacher from Jamaica in Okeechobee, I have been embracing the cultural exchange that has afforded me to see the world from a different angle. Contemporary society opens an umbrella for diversity and the phenomena of a new environment have propelled me to record my new discoveries here in Okeechobee as ‘valuable steps‘ on my journey motif.

As an educator, chief among my new discoveries are the children that I teach.

I have come to realize they are merely new faces, because there is a unique, universal characteristic that is attached to these precious gems that is indeed not new to me. They all have wings. Children will go where they are directed. It is vital that as adults of society we continue to propel our children on the right path, securing a scaffold for them to stand strong, to feel loved and to embrace the notion that they can always maximize on their full potential.

It is crucial that we give our children wings, let them soar higher than they have ever been. Children are of paramount importance to the development of any nation.
