PALM BEACH GARDENS — Southeast Florida is fully immersed in the holiday season as families and friends gather over meals and exchange gifts. Yet, for many families, the strain of limited resources creates the struggle to put food on the table or provide presents for their children. AmeriHealth Caritas Florida made efforts to change that by working with community-based organizations over the last two months to help bring the season of giving to those who need it most.
AmeriHealth Caritas Florida donated nearly $10,000 in total to support eight events held by eight different nonprofits throughout Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. Almost 15,000 individuals benefitted from these food- and gift-drive events supported by the health plan.
“As a Medicaid managed care plan, we understand the toll poverty takes on families,” said AmeriHealth Caritas Florida Market President Melody Bonomo. “And for families struggling to pay for basic necessities, the added stress to provide extras during the holidays can be overwhelming.”
In Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, 15% and 12% of the population live in poverty, respectively, according to U.S. Census data from 2022. As a managed care organization with members in both areas, AmeriHealth Caritas Florida proudly supported community-based organizations who share its mission, including:
• Healthier Glades Healthy Eating, Healthy Living Fair
“Driven by our mission, it’s important for us to help these families and we are proud to support such worthy community organizations in their impactful work,” said Bonomo.
