One killed when ATV collides with moped

LABELLE – A crash on N.E. Eucalyptus Boulevard on Sunday, Feb. 25 left one person dead.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle (ATV) was traveling  on the north shoulder of N.E. Eucalyptus Boulevard, west of Rainbow Circle, at 2:23 p.m.

A 15-year-old LaBelle girl was driving the ATV, according to the FHP report. A 14-year-old LaBelle girl was a passenger on the vehicle. A 16-year-old Clewiston boy was also a passenger.

 A moped was traveling west on Eucalyptus Boulevard, west of Rainbow Circle. The ATV attempted to cross Eucalyptus Boulevard from the north shoulder, and entered the direct path of the moped, the report continues. The front portion of ATV collided with the front tire of moped.

A 30-year-old  Lakeland man, who was on the moped, died at the scene. A 32-year-old Miami man, who was also on the moped, was critically injured.  As of Monday morning, FHP had not determined which person was driving the moped at the time of the crash.

The ATV driver and passengers received minor injuries, according to the report.

The accident remains under investigation.
