Woman on riding lawn mower struck by car

AVE MARIA – A 49-year-old Immokalee woman was killed Sept. 18, when the lawn mower she was riding was struck by a car.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, at 1:27 p.m. the lawn mower was traveling east on the grass shoulder of Ave Maria Boulevard. A sedan, driven by a 59-year-old Ave Maria woman was traveling north on Ava Maria Boulevard, on the outside lane.

The FHP report states the sedan went over the east curb, entered the east grass shoulder, collided with shrubbery and then struck the lawn mower. Post collision, the lawn mower overturned and collided with a sign post and tree. The lawn mower driver was thrown from the lawn mower and came to rest on the east grass shoulder. She was pronounced deceased on scene. The crash remains under investigation.
