Woman charged with possession after auto accident

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — After her truck was found in a ditch, the owner was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. Shelley Hogan, 38, was arrested May 6 by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Marc Williams at approximately 4:30 p.m.

An anonymous caller told 911 dispatch they saw a blue truck in the ditch in the 300 block of U.S. 98 North near the Circle K. Williams responded to the area and found a black F-150 stuck in the ditch. As he checked the inside of the truck, a female came toward him through the parking lot of the Speckled Perch. She told him her name, and dispatch said she was the registered owner of the vehicle.

A tow truck driver from BMJ Towing saw Hogan run off the road and offered to tow her truck for her and she accepted.

According to Williams’ report, Hogan appeared to be under the influence of some type of drug, slurring her words, falling asleep while standing and staggering as she walked. Hogan walked away from Williams and toward traffic but was intercepted by Deputy Richard Varnadore.

A search of her vehicle reportedly turned up marijuana in a black pipe and a glass pipe containing methamphetamine residue which Hogan reportedly tried to hide by throwing it under the deputy’s car.

Hogan’s bond was set at $8,000.
