Okeechobee planning board to consider rezoning for 400 home development

OKEECHOBEE -- A public hearing will be held Tuesday, April 27 before the Okeechobee County Planning Board at 6 p.m. in the Health Department Auditorium, 1728 NW Ninth Avenue, Okeechobee, Florida to consider a request for a change in zoning from the existing classifications of Residential Single Family (RSF) and Agriculture (A) to the proposed classification of Planned Development (PD). The property address is 747 SW 48th Avenue.
 
The property is between Popash Slough and SW 48th Avenue, and south of State Road 70.  
 
The proposed development may include up to 400 single family dwellings, 80 villas, a golf course, and 8 acres of general commercial uses. The property owner and applicant is JW Turf Farms, Inc.
 
A second public hearing to consider the request for a change in zoning will be held before the Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 9 a.m. in the Judge William L. Hendry Courtroom, Room 270, Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 NW 2nd Street, Okeechobee, Florida.
