OKEECHOBEE — After a chase around a neighborhood in Treasure Island, a man was arrested and charged with DUI. On Tuesday, May 11 just before 10 p.m., a member of the narcotics task force attempted to make a traffic stop on a gray Toyota, because the registration sticker was faded and unreadable and the window tint was so dark the detective could not see inside the vehicle.

According to the report, the car, driven by 25-year-old Darrell Blackburn, did not stop but instead traveled up and down several roads in the area, driving at about 30 mph. The car went around a second narcotics detective who was stopped in the 3400 block of Southeast 28th Street with his emergency lights on. The vehicle drove up into someone’s yard and continued down the street until reaching a home in the 2900 block of Southeast 28th Street. At that point, he pulled into the carport and turned off the engine.

Blackburn got out of the vehicle and reportedly locked the car and threw his keys on the front seat before closing the door. K9 Samba conducted a free air sniff and alerted to the vehicle. Because the keys were locked in the car, a lockout kit was used to open the doors, and a search was conducted. The report notes the search revealed a plastic baggie filled with marijuana, a glass pipe containing marijuana residue, an open bottle of beer and a six pack of Michelob, one of which was open and in the driver’s side door panel.

Blackburn was charged with fleeing and eluding while lights and siren are active, driving with a suspended license, DUI, reckless driving, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $12,500.
