Local man is accused of punching a woman in the face during burglary

OKEECHOBEE — A local man was charged with burglary with battery after allegedly going into a woman’s home and punching her in the face repeatedly. Jimmy Wellman, 28, was arrested May 9 by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Karson Reno.

According to Reno’s report, he arrived at approximately 5 p.m. on April 23, after a call regarding a burglary. Reno spoke to the woman who lived in the home and she told him she and her mother had been out in the yard doing yard work. She went inside and found Wellman rummaging through her things. She asked him several times to leave, but he walked up to her and punched her in the face multiple times instead. She said afterward, he ran out of the house, through the woods, got into a vehicle and left.

A BOLO (be on the lookout) was placed for Wellman, and on May 9, he was located in the home of another woman. He was reportedly found lying on the floor next to her bed and was arrested without incident.

His bond was set at $50,000.
