INDIANTOWN — Whether walking home, traveling to and from work, jogging for exercise or making the trip to school; most Village of Indiantown residents are pedestrians at some point during the day. As such, a safe comfortable and convenient walking experience is fundamental to residents, businesses and visitors.

While many improvements to roads and core infrastructure in Indiantown are ongoing, traditional pedestrian conditions struggle to perform among the current pandemic environment. “We know the quality of existing pedestrian infrastructure requires substantial improvement,” said Village Manager Howard W. Brown. Such improvements include identifiable street cross-sections, sidewalk materials, sidewalk availability, and general lighting. A Pedestrian and Sidewalk Master Plan will allow the Village to engineer these improvements and better target the most vulnerable areas.

The Village of Indiantown is applying to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunities (DEO) Community Development Block Grant - Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) program to request $300,000 in funding to develop a Pedestrian and Sidewalk Master Plan and associated documentation.

As part of the application process, a public hearing will be held to receive public input. The public hearing will be held on Thursday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. during the regular Indiantown Village Council meeting. The meeting will be held in person and virtually. Visit https://www.indiantownfl.gov/grants/page/deo-cdbg-cv-pedestrian-sidewalk-master-plan-hearing-notice-information for more details.

The Pedestrian and Sidewalk Master Plan, preferably including Complete Street Designs and Guidelines, will allow the Village to make walking more comfortable, more convenient and more equitable. The Village will use this plan to develop internal policy, programmatic recommendations and infrastructure improvements to create a pedestrian friendly environment.
