Drive-through celebration spreads holiday cheer in Clewiston

Posted

CLEWISTON — The Harlem Tenants Association has events and giveaways to bring positivity to the community all year long, but throughout the holiday season they partner with other businesses and organizations to spread extra cheer. Working with sponsors and volunteers, they gave away turkeys, toys and even hosted a special drive-through senior celebration this holiday season, during which they were able to bless over 200 senior citizens with gifts.

Sunday, Dec, 13, many volunteers lined up outside the John Boy Auditorium in Clewiston, to help with the giveaway. Instead of the annual Christmas party that is usually held inside, this unique drive-through event was organized in order to keep everyone safe and healthy during the COVID-19 crisis. From gift giving to raffling smart TVs and gift cards, there were quite a few exciting moments and endless smiling faces.

“Thanks to our loyal supporters of our Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party, USSC, Royal Furniture, Everglades Federal Credit Union, Friendship Baptist Church, New Bethel AMEC, New Harvest Church, True Vine Church, Mount Calvary Baptist Church, New Hope Church and Harlem Tenants Association. Hopefully next year we will be back to all our usual donors,” said Janet Taylor, vice president of the Harlem Tenants Association.

Taylor went on to issue thanks to all of the sponsors and volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success, especially during such a hard year. “Some weeks are hectic and unfulfilling; then there are weeks like this one that is so rewarding. Thank you for blessing them in these trying times.”
