Anglers for Lake Okeechobee on SB 2516 - Take Action Now!

With Florida’s 2021 Legislative Session now behind us, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Lake Okeechobee and what is being done to resolve the water issues impacting Florida’s rural and coastal communities.

Unfortunately, there are major misconceptions and misinformation about what the source of these problems are. For instance, did you know that 95 percent of the water flowing into Lake O comes from the north where it is over populated and the water untreated?

This is the primary source of the damaging inflows you’ve probably seen and exactly why it is imperative that we fund projects that will store and treat water north of the lake.

The Florida Legislature recently passed SB 2516, expediting northern storage projects while dedicating $50 million annually to the project – totaling the funds for this to $150 million since 2018.

The Legislature also committed $360 million for restoration in the Everglades.

The combination of these solutions will help solve ongoing water issues, providing Lake Okeechobee and the coastal areas with some much-needed relief.

I realize that Lake O has its challenges, which is why I joined my husband and Anglers for Lake Okeechobee. We are all fighting for the same thing: cleaner waterways.
