Chase ends with vehicle in ditch

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — While patrolling near the city industrial park just before 1 a.m. on Nov. 19, Okeechobee City Police Officer Jessica Francis noticed a vehicle go through a stop sign without stopping. When she attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver reportedly ignored her lights and siren and accelerated. After a harrowing chase, which ended with his vehicle in a ditch on Northwest 36th Street near the Rio Bravo Plaza, 44-year-old Shone Haas was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding with wanton disregard to safety. He was also issued several citations. The vehicle was towed, and prior to towing, a glass pipe was reportedly found on the floorboard. It tested positive for cocaine. Haas was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was cleared by EMS before being transported to the Okeechobee County Jail.
