Applications now being accepted for Adventure scholarships

Posted

NAPLES -- The Gene Doyle Memorial Foundation is offering adventure scholarships for Collier County high school Juniors, Seniors, and recent graduates between the ages of 16-21. The foundation will award select students up to $5,500 to go on a structured adventure through one of three programs: Outward Bound, National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), or the Alaska Mountaineering School.

The scholarship fund adventure trips range throughout North and South America and last between two weeks and one month. The scholarship allows students to go Yukon backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, or sea kayaking. The Memorial Foundation reviews applications based on the passion to explore and not student grades.

Students can complete the application online at www.genedoyle.org/applications. All applications must be submitted by March 12. Finalists will be interviewed on Thursday, March 30. Scholarship recipients will be announced the following day, March 31.

Adventure scholarships are supported by proceeds from the annual Gene Doyle Backcountry Catch and Release Fishing Tournament. This year’s fishing tournament has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, but the scholarships will still be awarded. The next fishing tournament will be held April 22-24, 2022. For more information about the scholarship or Fishing Tournament, visit www.genedoyle.org.
